Project Description
Holy Comforter
Ecosystem Services was contacted by the Holy Comforter (HOCO) Church Eco Steering Committee to provide design and planning solutions to reduce the stormwater impact of their landscape. The Steering Committee had many progressive and ecologically sensitive measures that they planned to implement around their church grounds. A team of professionals including the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and the Middle James Roundtable provided a suite of practices that could be implemented along with recommendations of how these practices could be installed and how credit could be achieved to reduce the local stormwater utility fee from the City of Richmond. A rain garden, pet waste station, and bayscapes were installed in addition to educational signage. This project is a great example of an organization taking the initiative to improve their stormwater management and instill positive environmental values in their community. Ecosystem Services staff provided a rain garden design and construction oversight in addition to volunteering to consult on other stormwater initiatives being undertaken.
