Melanie is an environmental scientist with a focus in wetlands, geomorphic and vegetation surveys, and GIS. She has a background in academia and performed research in the areas of wetland geomorphology and vegetation changes, mountain environments, and the effects of fire on vegetation and soil.

Growing up in rural Virginia, Melanie developed a love for the outdoors early on in life. This passion led to her interests in ecosystem protection and restoration, natural history education, and environmental justice. She plans to use her knowledge and skills as an environmental scientist to achieve her career goals of helping others have the opportunity to enjoy and explore the outdoors, be able to connect to their environment, and benefit from a healthy ecosystem.
