Katie Atkinson
Katie has over 8 years of engineering experience. Her project background includes stream restoration, outfall restoration, drainage improvement, flood studies, and other water resources engineering projects. She began her career designing stormwater layouts for site developments but quickly dove into the world of ecological restoration. Her professional experience provides her with insight to the development process and goals in addition to restoration objectives. She has helped design numerous restoration projects that collectively span several miles of the Central Virginia area.
As her career progressed, Katie found a niche in urban stream restoration work and finds the transformation of these sites, from eyesore to community amenity, enriching and personally gratifying. She enjoys finding creative ways to leverage multiple design approaches to achieve pollutant reduction crediting and prevent further degradation of the Chesapeake Bay or other downstream ecosystems. Katie is passionate in applying her technical knowledge to projects that seek to restore the conditions of complex ecosystems back to their natural state.
As a Design Lead, Katie focuses on navigating restoration projects from concept to completion. Her experience with urban stream corridors is indispensable for Municipalities looking to improve their urban riverscapes and address the competing constraints that are replete in these systems.
