Project Description

Linville Creek

Our project in the Town of Broadway, VA is a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) funded project in partnership with the Town of Broadway and Shenandoah Valley Soil & Water Conservation District (SVSWCD). The objectives of the project are to 1) conduct stream corridor and watershed assessment in support of the Linville Creek Watershed Implementation Plan; 2) develop a prioritization ranking using a multi-criterion decision assessment tool and 3) design green infrastructure projects including engineering design, construction plans, permitting, and construction oversight. Final projects will include the design of 3,000 linear feet of stream restoration and four rain gardens. This project is the first step on the long road to restoring the Linville Creek watershed. We look forward to seeing measurable water quality improvements, and hope for the reintroduction of fish species to Linville Creek. In addition, this project will present educational and recreational opportunities within the Town and beyond.

Goals

  • Assess the urban limit of the Linville Creek watershed.
  • Create a MCDA tool to prioritize work areas.
  • Design green infrastructure projects including (4) raingardens and 3,000 linear feet of stream restoration.
