As part of NFWF’s Project Spotlight series, Kip Mumaw of Ecosystem Services and Kelly Gutshall of Landstudies presented about “Engaging Communities through Flood Mitigation.”  Many communities struggle to address flooding issues with limited technical and financial resources.  Flooding can be an important linchpin to start conversations about comprehensive stormwater management and watershed planning, which can accomplish multiple goals.  Kip discussed Ecosystem Services’ experience working with Virginia localities on NFWF funded projects, specifically our work with the Town of Glasgow, and how concerns over flooding played a part in their participation and the strategies that were proposed and implemented.
